Every agency uses Nixle a little differently because they are trying to best meet their community’s needs. The Sebastopol Police Department will issue Nixle alerts only for emergencies and significant community impact events (see definitions below).
EMERGENCY – A public safety related event or situation in which the community may be in imminent danger. Examples are the following, but not limited to:
- Flooding
- Wildfire
- Evacuations
- Shelter-in-place
- Active shooter
COMMUNITY IMPACT – An event or situation involving significant impact to community infrastructure, which is likely to disrupt everyday life and/or generate calls to the police. Examples are the following, but not limited to:
- Significant road closures
- Power outages
- Down powerlines
- Potentially dangerous wildlife sightings (bears, mountain lions, etc.)
- Water main break
