Sebastopol Releases Draft Climate Action Framework
Community members invited to comment on document

Sebastopol, Calif., June 21, 2022 – On Thursday, June 16th, the City of Sebastopol released a draft Climate Action Framework. The Framework highlights opportunities for additional climate action in Sebastopol and sets goals for action in six areas:

  • Transportation
  • Sustainable land use
  • Buildings and clean energy
  • Consumption and waste
  • Community
  • City operations and leadership

Community members, local organizations, businesses, and other interested parties are invited to review and comment on the draft Framework, which will be presented at the following public meetings:

  • Climate Action Committee meeting on June 22nd, 3:30-5 pm
  • Planning Commission meeting on July 12th, 6 pm

After incorporating community feedback, the final draft of the Framework will be presented to the City Council for adoption in July 2022.

Information on how to attend the public meetings may be found on the City of Sebastopol website’s Meetings page.

The development of the Climate Action Framework follows the City Council’s adoption of a Climate Emergency Resolution in 2019. This Resolution recognized the immense threat that climate change poses and set the goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2030. Sebastopol’s volunteer Climate Action Committee, which began meeting in January 2021, was established by the City Council to carry forward these climate efforts.

As well as setting goals for the future, the Framework provides an overview of past actions the City of Sebastopol has taken to address climate change and improve community preparedness for climate-influenced hazards. Potential additional actions that the City could take to help meet its climate goals are included in Appendix A, and ways that community members can take action are distributed throughout the document.
