The Ives Pool building and Public Works Corporation Yard received new solar panels this March at no cost to the City of Sebastopol. The Corporation Yard solar panels were installed in 2003 and the Pool building panels were installed in 2004. As early as 2012, both the Pool building and Corporation Yard experienced failed panels. An investigation into the cause and symptoms revealed a product class action settlement with the manufacturer due to a known design issue. In 2017, the two sites had enough failures to qualify for a complete replacement claim. With proper documentation, both sites were approved for a full replacement of panels. It is estimated that the cost to replace the panels at the Public Works Corporation Yard would have been $50,000 and the Ives Pool building would have been $80,000 to $100,000.
