Post-Outage Food Waste Disposal

Post-Outage Food Waste Disposal

The FDA advises that any perishable food (such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, or leftovers) that has been at temperatures above 40° F for 2 hours or more should be discarded.

With the extended power outage that we have experienced, any perishable food that was in your refrigerator is not safe to eat. "If in doubt, throw it out.”

Recology has directed customers to separate spoiled food waste into your home trash and compost bins as you usually do.

For overflow, a debris box is available to Sebastopol residents. The box is located near the cardboard recycling bin behind the Sebastopol Teen Center at 425 Morris Street. The current overflow debris box can accept mixed food waste.

NOTE: The overflow debris box is the smaller of the two debris boxes and is circled in red in the photo.
