Public Input Wanted on New Art Installation at Sebastopol Regional Library

SEBASTOPOL, Calif. November 08, 2018 -- The Sebastopol Public Arts Committee is looking for community input on two potential art pieces for the Sebastopol Regional Library.

The artists' models, known as “maquettes,” will be on display at the library from November 8 until Thanksgiving for public comment. Michael McGinnis’s artwork will be a sculpture integrating the site, the community, and the universal purpose of the library; and Linda Serrao’s proposed piece is a bronze sculpture showcasing the magic carpet ride that books and art can be.

The Public Arts Committee will make their final decision on December 5 and recommend their choice to the City Council. The City Council will review the Committee’s recommendation in early 2019.

Following approval, the art is slated to be installed at the Sebastopol Regional Library next summer.

Funding for this project comes from the City of Sebastopol’s Art In-Lieu Fee Fund that is set aside for public artworks. The City requires that large development projects contribute a percentage of the overall project construction budget to enhance the visual appeal of the project and the City; this can be met by the developer either installing a public art on their site or paying an in-lieu fee, which is then held in the Public Arts Fund.

Please complete and submit a comment card at the library, or email your comments to rmansour@cityofsebastopol.org.
