City Council to consider new art installation at Sebastopol Regional Library
SEBASTOPOL, Calif. December 10, 2018 – At their meeting on December 05, 2018, the Sebastopol Public Arts Committee selected Michael McGinnis’ artwork titled ‘Gray Matter’ as the finalist to advance for City Council consideration. This came after presentation to the public at a community meeting on November 07, 2018, and display at the Sebastopol Public Library throughout November. The Public Arts Committee received over 100 public comments on the two pieces.
The City Council is expected to receive a presentation by the Artist and review the Committee’s recommendation at their meeting on February 05, 2019.
If approved by Council, the art is anticipated to be installed at the Sebastopol Regional Library next summer.
Funding for this project comes from the City of Sebastopol’s Art In-Lieu Fee Fund that is set aside for public artworks. The City requires that large development projects contribute a percentage of the overall project construction budget to enhance the visual appeal of the project and the City; this can be met by the developer either installing a public art on their site or paying an in-lieu fee, which is then held in the Public Arts Fund.
